Comments:

Great living in the boondocks, no congestion. The lack of FRS is a plus! I live between two hills which gives the UHF a hard time with distance BUT, without the FRS it has a removable antenna which allows removing and plug into a cheap Jpole ant. raised above the roof (only 5 ft long). This gives enough hill clearance and can talk several miles ( you should offer this as kits). VHF is even better doing this (jpole dual tuned) I'm far enough away from waterways to not interfere with shipping. Screen is easy to read and understand. It can do more than just push to talk but a tad more difficult to use( just read the instructions) but as just a walkie super simple to select bands, channels, and use. Love the selectable power settings; saves on battery if full power not needed. Love the included batter pack for regular batteries; sometimes no power to "re-charge" so this keeps you going.(runs for hours if don't transmit to much)(if recv only(like National weather broadcasts) probably for several days) Have had them on an SWR/Power meter got 6w VHF, as advertised, got 4w on UHF(advertized at 4.5..maybe my meter ate some). In summary, this is a great little radio for the cost. Used within it's design, you will be happy with it.

Comments:

I use these both for boating and for inland activities such as Backpacking and that can be for a week or more at a time. This unit is durable and functions well as intended. For extended battery time hiking the radio is kept off for predetermined intervals. Range options are good being able to switch the power from One Watt up makes best use of areas that do not restrict transmissions. For Marine use this waterproof unit can stay on all day without issue and there is usually a way to charge it again and if not that's what the spare battery tray is for. The only thing I don't like is the proprietary battery which is part of the waterproof system is not readily available to carry a spare, there is no external charging port which would lend its self to a 12DC power cord, and the cost of the battery. I've worked with and worn radio equipment that was $3,000.00 a unit when you bought 1,000 per order. There is no comparison as these are two different missions. The difference is in knowing just what the difference is and why. If you understand what they will do for you and appreciate those parameters you will get a long time of reliable use of these durable units.
